Selbständigkeit als Strategie, um der Vereinbarkeitsproblematik zu begegnen? Ingenieurinnen zwischen Erwerbstätigkeit und Familie

Die vorliegende Studie widmet sich mit qualitativem Forschungsdesign der Frage, ob die berufliche Selbständigkeit von Ingenieurinnen eine Strategie darstellt, um Familie und Beruf unter den gegebenen Rahmenbedingungen miteinander vereinbaren zu können. In beiden untersuchten Fällen ist der Schritt in die berufliche Selbständigkeit anders motiviert. Allerdings stellt sich die Frage, ob diese die egalitäre Arbeitsteilung der beiden Paare erst ermöglicht – quasi als Nebeneffekt. Wo Licht ist, ist jedoch auch Schatten: Das dual earner model wartet im familialen Alltag mit hohem Organisationsaufwand und Zeitnot auf.

Self-employment as a strategy to counter the compatibility issue? Female engineers between employment and family
The aim of the study is to explore if self-employment of female engineers is a strategy to reconcile family and work under the given framework conditions. In both cases examined, the step towards self-employment was motivated differently. Conversely this means, that the self-employment may be the precondition for the equal division of labour between the couple – as a side effect. In addition to this advantage, there are also disadvantages: the dual earner model causes a high level of organization and time pressure in everyday family life.
